What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine is an ancient system of medicine that continues to be widely practised across the world.
It offers an effective, natural and safe approach to healthcare which focuses on the whole person not just the illness and treats the cause of the problem not just symptoms.
What can it help with?
Herbal medicine can treat many conditions and is suitable for all ages from babies to elderly people.
Common complaints treated include:
- Recurring viral, bacterial and fungal infections
- Skin conditions such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne rosacea, heat rash, itchy skin, allergic reactions, fungal infections, molluscum and warts.
- Asthma, hay fever, bronchitis, sinusitis, coughs, colds, headaches and migraine
- Female conditions such as menstrual disturbances, heavy, painful or irregular periods; PMT, menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes and irritability;
- Stress, anxiety, panic attacks and sleep disturbances
- Indigestion, ulcers, colitis, diarrhoea, constipation, IBS and bad breath
Herbal medicine is also very helpful as a tonic, either as a preventative against disease, or in convalescence after major illness.
Tailored Prescriptions:
Every patient seen is given an individually tailored prescription of herbs specific to their particular needs. Each prescription contains several herbs which, together, aim to treat the cause of illness, support the different affected areas of the body, bolster the body’s own defence mechanisms if appropriate and provide symptomatic relief where required.
Herbs can be given in various forms. Annette usually prescribes a liquid tincture (which looks and tastes much like ‘a cough medicine’), but also give dried herbs for making teas, tablets, capsules and syrups, as well as creams, lotions and ointments for external use.
Annette adheres to a strict code of ethics and is only able to provide tailored prescriptions to patients attending her clinic for a face-to-face consultation. Annette does not carry out consultations on the internet or telephone, although general enquiries are welcome.
